Addressing Syverson's Critique:

Syverson's critique fails to acknowledge the strengths of Cooper's model.

While I agree that we must account for material and embodied forces in a writing ecology, Syverson's critique fails to acknowledge the explanatory power of Cooper's conceptual model and construct of "system," or the potential of Cooper's framework as a heuristic through which shared meaning about writing as a product of ecology can be explored and negotiated through further study. Therefore, I operate on Cooper's model of ecology and its definition of "system," and I adapt the systems to account for widely acknowledged systemic influences in the networking of digital writing--materials and social capital.
